Trey Thompson From his touring days and as a session player in Los Angeles in the late 1970's and '80's,
bassist Trey Thompson's interests in stand-up and electric bass gradually moved towards jazz.
Holy Ground is Trey's debut solo album, and a solid jazz offering of classic and original compositions
presented in small ensemble, where his work shines. Michael Ruff on piano... |

| After years in California, Trey chose to make Kauai his home. The title track was
inspired by his feeling that living in Hawai`i among the rapidly changing forces of nature and God
'is indeed like walking on Holy Ground'. Lured by the surf, Trey is truly a 'Kai Kane' - a water man. |

Holy Ground
 |
In Holy Ground, Trey takes his collection of basses and styles into a
number of varied musical settings. Holy Ground is improvisational and conversational throughout -
small ensembles of duos, trios and quartets, featuring Michael Ruff on keyboards, Tris Imboden (Chicago) on drums,
Brandon Yip on guitar, Curtis Gaesser on soprano sax, and Sara Thompson as guest vocalist.
Three classics by Miles Davis and Victor Young are offered in traditional jazz approaches, while
Like Father Like Son by Billy Childs is unconventially presented in a duet arrangment by
guitarist Brandon Yip. These are ably joined by four original compositions (one with Gaesser) which
tease the margin between fusion jazz and rock in E Komo Mai and Kai Kane, explore
world music textures in Holy Ground, or soar with the musical ether in Shorter.
