Leilani Rivera Bond

Leilani Rivera Bond began entertaining as a little girl, performing nightly with her father Larry Rivera and family at the Coco Palms Resort on Kaua`i. She began hula lessons at an early age, then created and taught hula to other Coco Palms performers from age 13. She began teaching the hula about 20 years ago as she began raising her children, and Halau Hula o Leilani now has many keiki and adult students.
Many have enjoyed Leilani's live shows for years, known for their pagentry, stages covered with expert players and dancers, entertaining in authentic Hawai`ian family tradition. She is a strong guitarist and singer, and an inspiration to all who work with her or enjoy her music and hula. When we got the call to work on A Kaua`i Christmas, we knew we were in for a real treat. Hope you enjoy this as much as we did making it.

A Kaua`i Christmas
Truly a Kaua`i style Christmas, Leilani's 4th CD has a distinctly Hawaiian Christmas flavor. Three of the songs are Kaua`i composed and recorded for the first time. As a recording artist composer and kumu hula, she has warmed the hearts of many all over the world. Come share "A Kaua`i Christmas" me ko kakou Haku 'o Jesu Kristo... Produced by Michael Ruff

Na Hana A Ke Aloha
In Na Hana A Ke Aloha(The Works Of Love), Leilani's rich, sweet voice can be heard and felt in this collection of varied language(Hawaiian, English, Japanese and Rarotongan) love songs. In today's complex and ever-changing world, you can appreciate the simplicity, beauty and warmth of these songs as they reflect on the many different phases of love and life.

Pulama `la Na Mele o Kaua`i
Leilani Rivera Bond, Kumu hula, musician and daughter of Kaua`i, shares her love of the island's ancient legends, places and royalty through these songs of love in her second CD. She chants about the magnificent ridges and valleys of Na Pali. A compelling and lyrical song describes Wailua on the east side. Other songs touch the northwest and south shores, Ni`ihau and Nihoa islands, west of Kaua`i. Listen and be carried into the heart of her beloved home, Kaua`i.

Na Hoku O Ka Lani
Love is the central theme of the songs that Leilani Rivera Bond decided to put on this CD. They reflect the moods and passions of life itself. This recording is the realization of a dream she's had for many years. In Hawaiian, English, Tahitian, and the Cook Islands dialect, she sings lyrical songs of love and life, including her own composition, Na Hoku o Ka Lani(Stars of Heaven). She has been inspired to compose and perform by the Makaha Sons, Keali`i Reichel, and her dad, Larry Rivera.

Aloha Anianiau
Bond and producer Michael Ruff have done a beautiful job with the end product -- the music. The arrangements are uncluttered, Bond's voice is warm and melodic. She personalizes local standards -- "Koke'e" and "Beautiful Kauai," to name two -- and introduces newer compositions that seem certain to appeal to Hawaiian-speakers.

Guests such as Holunape, Willie K, Zanuck Kapala Lindsey and Eric Gillom contribute other voices and instrumentation, but never intrusively. Mandolin and banjo, for example, add subtle grass-roots textures to "Koke'e."
